THE ROMANS ONE SPIRAL - P3
“For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. ” (Romans 1:25).
With acts of illusion and deception, man likes to play the magician with God’s Truth. They wave their hands and say, “Where did it go? Was it even real?” But just as magicians trick their audience by exchanging illusion for reality, so man cannot actually change reality.
This is a clever parlor trick we learned in Eden to “know” for ourselves what is “good” and “evil,” exchanging the reality of what God says is good for us (truth) with an illusion (lie). Why? All to make ourselves feel better about what we are doing, which we know is wrong—justifying it to ourselves and others to make it seem right, to embolden us to continue down the spiral of serving the creature (us).
Unfortunately for man, while he can suppress the Truth of God, he cannot undo its reality, “for since the creation of the world His [God’s] invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Rom. 1:20).
One such case we can look at would be sexuality. We can clearly see from nature that male and female animals mate together to reproduce. Biologically, the primary purpose of sex is reproduction to raise the next generation to continue serving God in the way they were made. All nature reproduces after its kind and this is one of all creation’s chief functions.
But having children requires commitment, energy, money, and time—all of which is “misspent” if you are trying to maximize your own happiness and pleasure. To those that serve themselves, children are a “burden,” a drain, an inconvenience. People want the pleasure of sex without the purpose behind it that the Creator made it for, because the purpose is about someone other than themselves and inconveniences their service to themselves. So, they exchange the truth of what sex is about for a lie that sex is about pleasure. So people have sex for pleasure, but they get pregnant—which is now an undesirable byproduct of sex—an unintended consequence that is unwanted and a “problem,” since it isn’t the reason they have sex. Oops! Man must suppress this uncomfortable truth for the sake of their lie. With some magician handwaving, they declare that children in the womb are “not alive” and “we’ll make this problem go away.” And with this, they justify murder—the removal of the inconvenient consequence of sex.
This delusion is very strong today—many people refuse to acknowledge that the primary purpose of sex is reproduction. Like Lucifer, they exchange the Truth of God for a lie by denying they understand what is clearly seen from what has been made—all to justify their actions and pretend there are no consequences. This is nothing new—satan first exchanged the Truth of God for a lie when he told Adam and Eve, “You will not die” (Gen. 3:4b) in order to encourage their denial of the Creator and justify their self-worship. In the same way today, people say, “The fetus isn’t a baby” to encourage the self-worship of Man by serving the creature—their own flesh.
But God says, “Behold, children are a gift of the Lord” (Psalm 127:3a). So when we justify the murder of our brothers, God might as well be speaking to us when He says, “the voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground” (Gen. 4:10b). Is it any surprise then that “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them” (Rom. 1:18-19)?
So, for the sake of self-service, man tries to make the pleasure of sex “good” and the child “evil.” In contrast, Believers serve the purpose of God—the chief good of sex is children and its pleasure is a celebration of this creative act between husband and wife. Amen.
