Memory Verse - (August 14-21)
Our Memory Verse for this week comes from Hebrews 12, where the writer is making a contrast between the hope that we have as Believers in Jesus and the hope that the world has in its "saviors." We have inherited a Kingdom and a King that cannot be shaken, but like any inheritance we must wait to receive it while we endure life in this war zone on earth. Here, we are shaken at times by the horrors of sin and a world counseled by the devil, yet, we are not greatly shaken. Nor are we long shaken, because Jesus is our rock, our stronghold stretching out to us from the calm of Eternity to get us through the spiritual and physical earthquakes that happen around us until He draws us safely home to the eternal life and peace of His unshakable reign.
May we remember to offer acceptable worship to God and live life with a reverence and awe at the unshakable future we have stored up for us in Heaven. We need to recall this in the worries of our daily lives. May the Holy Spirit testify in us and through us a simple and pure devotion to Christ, that we would worship Him in reverence and awe for His wonderful salvation. May He inspire us to a deeper love and understanding of His Gospel and a deeper commitment in our witness to the world as His lights.
Our Memory Verse for this week is
“Therefore, let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.” (Hebrews 12:28)
Other verses to consider:
"How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, And my enemy will say, 'I have overcome him,' And my adversaries will rejoice when I am shaken." (Psalm 13:4)
“Rescue the weak and needy; Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked. They do not know nor do they understand; They walk about in darkness; All the foundations of the earth are shaken.” (Psalm 82:4-5)
“My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.” (Psalm 62:1-2)
"Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who greatly delights in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever. Light arises in the darkness for the upright; He is gracious and compassionate and righteous. It is well with the man who is gracious and lends; He will maintain his cause in judgment. For he will never be shaken; The righteous will be remembered forever." (Psalm 112:1-6)
“The earth is broken asunder, The earth is split through, The earth is shaken violently. The earth reels to and fro like a drunkard And it totters like a shack, For its transgression is heavy upon it, And it will fall, never to rise again.” (Isaiah 24:19-20)
"And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, 'Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.' This expression, 'Yet once more,' denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain." (Hebrews 12:26-17)
