Berean Lamp Memory Verse - Romans 7:4 - (Jan 11-18)
Our Memory Verse for this week comes from Romans 7:4. Jesus is the union of God-the-Word and man (John 1). His nature as God has never changed and He possesses an equal nature to the Father. At the same time, His human nature did change, for He was born, tempted, suffered, died, was resurrected, glorified, and is seated at the right hand of God in Heaven. Jesus is the reconciliation, the intersection of God and man. Perhaps we don't fully appreciate what this means for us. In Romans 7, Paul uses death and marriage to explain how we can be separated from the power of sin and joined to Jesus. This idea of the Church being united or joined to Jesus, comes to us in the Scriptural concept of the Bride of Christ, where we see the marriage of the Church to Jesus in Heaven (Rev 19:7-9) before the Millennial reign of Christ begins (when Jesus and His Church come to rule the earth for a thousand years). Nothing in the creation can be brought into the Godhead, for God is above creation and created all things - He was never created. Jesus is the reconciliation, for He is fully God and fully man; therefore, as Jesus' nature as God dwells in the Godhead and Jesus' nature as glorified man is at the right hand of God, He is the intersection and convergence between God and man - the bridge between creator and creation, for "no one comes to the Father but through Me" (John 14:6b). While none of the creation can enter into the Godhead, it is a profound truth of God's Word that the resurrected and glorified Church will be JOINED to the Godhead through Jesus, whose nature as the Word is in the Godhead and whose nature as glorified man is at the right hand of God in Heaven. In the language of marriage that Scripture uses, we will become united with God through our union with Jesus. What an amazing promise!
May we rejoice in the great and amazing love that God has shown us in Christ Jesus. We cannot even fathom the immense richness of the promises He has bestowed on us in His Son! May we praise the Lord for His goodness and love in His plan for us, which we cannot earn or merit, but which He freely gives to those who belong to His Son! Even so, Amen.
Our Memory Verse for this week is:
“Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God” (Romans 7:4 NASB).
Other verses to consider:
NOTHING IN THE CREATION CAN BE EQUAL TO GOD OR ENTER THE GLORY OF THE GODHEAD
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
AFTER HIS DEATH AND RESURRECTION, THE SON OF GOD WAS GLORIFIED AND RAISED TO SIT AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD
“But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:39).
“And Jesus answered them, saying, ‘The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified’” (John 12:23).
“Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:5).
“Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him; if God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and will glorify Him immediately. Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, “Where I am going, you cannot come”’” (John 13:31-33).
“Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us” (Romans 8:34).
“And what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come” (Ephesians 1:19-21).
“In these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they” (Ephesians 1:19-21).
“Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him” (1 Peter 3:21).
WE (THE CHURCH) WILL BE BROUGHT INTO CONFORMITY WITH THE BODY OF CHRIST'S GLORY IN HEAVEN
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself” (1 Corinthians 6:15-17).
“For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings” (Hebrews 2:10).
“And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory” (1 Peter 5:4).
“After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you” (1 Peter 5:10).
WE (THE CHURCH) ARE JOINED IN BETROTHAL TO CHRIST AND ARE ONE SPIRIT WITH HIM WHILE WE ARE IN THE WORLD
“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, ‘THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.’ But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him” (1 Corinthians 6:15-17).
“For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin” (2 Corinthians 11:2).
“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me” (John 17:20-23).
WE (THE CHURCH) WILL BE MADE ONE WITH JESUS WHEN WE ARE PRESENTED TO HIM IN HEAVEN FOR THE MARRIAGE OF THE LAMB
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body. FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH. This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5:25-32).
“‘Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.’ It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “‘Write, “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb”’” (Revelation 19:7-9).
