Berean Lamp Memory Verse - Matthew 28:19 - (Dec 14-21)

Posted by Nathan Warner on

Our Memory Verse for this week comes from Matthew 28:19, where Jesus declares the doctrine we know today as the "Trinity." As we near Christmas, we should meditate on the truth that Jesus is truly God to fully understand what He did for us. This requires us to first understand the doctrine of the Trinity as best we can. The word "trinity" like the word "rapture" doesn't appear in God's Word, leading many people to reject the idea, yet the concept of the trinity is seen clearly in Scripture. At the same time, the concept of the trinity is challenging for us to understand because the limits of our human nature cannot fully comprehending it; however, it may be no more of a challenge than trying to understand how God's nature is also infinite, eternal, Holy, and righteous. In these last days, many people are attacking the Scriptural truth that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, though distinct "persons", are united as God. Let's look in God's Word for what He has to say Himself about His nature.

May we seek the truth of God's Word that He has given us for our lives. In every aspect of our lives, may we submit our words to His Word. All glory, honor, and praise to God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Our Memory Verse for this week is:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

Other verses to consider:

“For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as indeed there are many gods and many lords, yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him” (1 Corinthians 8:5-6).

“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our
likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds
of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creeps on the earth’” (Genesis 1:26).

“Then the LORD God said, ‘Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever’— therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to cultivate the ground from which he was taken” (Genesis 3:22-23).

“The LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built. The LORD said, ‘Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them. Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.’ So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city” (Genesis 11:5-8).

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8)

“Come near to Me, listen to this: From the first I have not spoken in
secret, From the time it took place, I was there. And now the Lord GOD has sent Me, and His Spirit” (Isaiah 48:16).

All of God's creation has fallen short of His perfect, Holy, righteous
nature, including angels: “Can mankind be just before God? Can a man be pure before his Maker? He puts no trust even in His servants; And against His angels He charges error. How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before the moth!” (Job 4:17-19).

“Jesus said to her, ‘Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, “I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God”’” (John 20:17).

“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:3).

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being...And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified about Him and cried out, saying, ‘This was He of whom I said, “He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.”’ For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him” (John 1:1-2, 14-18).

“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the
elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form” (Colossians

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many
portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power” (Hebrews 1:1-3a).

“I and the Father are one. The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him” (John 10:30-31).

“For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill
Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God” (John 5:18).

This is just common sense - God's Spirit is part of Himself - “But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God’” (Acts 5:3-4).

“The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4).

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus: “Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’” (Galatians 4:6)

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him. Philip said to Him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me?” (John 14:7-10a).

“Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are” (John 17:11b).

“When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me” (John 15:26).

“Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him’” (John 14:23).

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you” (John 14:16-17).

“For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:9-10).

“Jesus answered them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will
raise it up’” (John 2:19).

“For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again” (John 10:17).

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
