Berean Lamp Memory Verse - (April 30-May 7)
Our Memory Verses for this week comes from the Gospel according to John where Jesus explains that no word that He speaks comes from Himself. Have we ever stopped to consider this? We are to emulate Christ. How often do you or I speak words other than what we have been taught by our Lord and Savior? To justify our opinions, lifestyles, or willfulness, how often do we stretch or bend God's Word to "speak" what we want to speak (whether in our own hearts or to others)? Let's look together at Scripture as we continue looking at how we are to speak the Word of God in our lives and in the lives of others.
May the Lord grant us understanding for what He has for us in His Word. May He show each of us how He wants us to speak His words and apply them by His Spirit in our lives and in the lives of those around us for the edification, exhortation, and consolation of the Church as well as for a testimony and a witness to Christ in the world. Amen.
Our Memory Verse for this week is:
“I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me” (John 8:28b).
Other verses to consider:
“But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment” (Matthew 12:36).
“For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me” (John 12:49-50).
“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure” (John 3:34).
“If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself” (John 7:17).
“He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him” (John 7:18).
“I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world” (John 8:26).
“I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father” (John 8:38).
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come” (John 16:13).
“Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person” (Colossians 4:6).
“In all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us” (Titus 2:7-8).
