Throughout scripture, praising the Lord with hymns, psalms, and a joyful noise is an important part of the worship due unto the Everlasting Father.  All creation takes part in the epic battle-hymn of Life from the patter of a thundershower and the humble song of the meadowlark to the pounding of the ocean's waves and the pulsing light of the stars.  A whole book of the Bible is dedicated to songs of praise, repentance, and prayer in the Psalms.  Many people throughout scripture sang to the Lord in the presence of others, among them, Moses (Deuteronomy 32), Deborah (Judges 5), and Mary (Lk 1:46-55), and the Elders in Heaven (Rev 5:9 - 11:17).  At the Passover meal, Jesus sang a hymn with His disciples as He looked ahead to the night of his betrayal and the crucifixion (Mt 26:30).  Here is a new song sung by the Elders in Heaven to Jesus:

"And when he (Jesus) had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying,

'Worthy are you to take the scroll
   and to open its seals,
for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation,
10 and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,
and they shall reign on the earth.'" - Rev 5:8-10
