Can we be assured that there really is truth in this fallen world where lies and deceit often reign? Is there a way to discern truth from lies? And is there anyone we can trust who knows and speaks truth and causes us to desire it in the inward heart?
The Bible says that the Holy Spirit has many attributes, one of which is as our Helper – parakletos – one called alongside to help.
After I became saved, I began to learn that it was the Holy Spirit Who illuminated the Word to me. Used as an adjective, the word illuminating means to “help to clarify or explain (a subject or matter): a most illuminating discussion” (New Oxford American Dictionary). The Scripture revealed to me that I had no righteousness of my own. Upon believing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the righteousness needed for salvation was imputed to me by the Holy Spirit.
How blessed are those who are accepted into the household of God. Paul spoke of the Gentile saints in the following verse: “So then ye are no more strangers and sojourners, but ye are fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God” (Ephesians 2:19 ASV). Scripture shows that salvation through the Son of God was carefully planned from the beginning, for the Jew first but also for the Gentiles.
Do you ever wonder how we can be content when our lives are sometimes troubled even after becoming a Christian? How do we regain an eternal perspective during and after each upsetting circumstance when often negative emotions disturb our peace and patience?
Holiness is the only attribute of God that is repeated three times, and all are of utmost importance. In the Hebrew language, intensity is communicated by repetition, so this indicates that the holiness of God should be held in awe by us. When God chose to show His holiness to Isaiah by way of a vision (Isaiah 6:1-4), the searing light of God on His throne, above the heavens and earth, brought him to reverence and repentance.
The Romans and the Pharisees did not have the authority or the power to take the life of Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God who came to earth to fulfill God’s plan of salvation by laying His life down as a perfect sacrifice for the sin of the whole world. I repeat: He laid His life down! No one had the power to take it from Him. Neither mankind nor the evil one had authority over Him then, just as they have no authority over Him now.
What astounding power there is in the Word of God to be able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Even as believers, we may be tempted daily to succumb to the disorder of the World System caused by sin in the hearts of man. There is not a family or government that is left unaffected by this fallen world.
It is a good practice to look up word meanings from Scripture in a couple of different dictionaries. Few words are deemed as important in Scripture as the word “Faith.”
